Communities for Health Training Programme 2010

Have you ever wondered how can Third Sector organisations access contracts to meet the community’s needs whilst meeting NHS and DMBC priorities?

To help you answer this question Doncaster CVS will be running a series of information and workshops sessions. This has been made possible with funding from the Department of Health Communities for Health funding via DMBC. The aim of the information and training session:-

The sessions will run from May – September 2010 and include the following topics:-

An Introduction to Procurement and Commissioning

Details: The session is for anyone new to procurement and commissioning. It will introduce participants to procurement processes and terminology. You will learn about identifying suitable tender opportunities and becoming a NHS provider.

Date: Tuesday, 11 May 2010             Time: 9.30 am - 12.30pm           Cost Band: A

Achieving Success when Completing Tenders

Details: This session will focus on effective tender writing skills and understanding what NHS procurement officers look for when they score bids. The session will provide an opportunity to learn about tendering processes, evaluation and the structure of the health market.

Date: Tuesday, 22 June 2010              Time: 9.30am - 4.30pm            Cost Band: B

Other: A light lunch will be provided

Collaboration – working in partnership with others

Details: This session will enable participants to understand the different ways organisations can collaborate when tendering. You will learn about the advantages and disadvantages the various methods offer (including consortia) and gain a good understanding about what's involved in forming effective and beneficial partnerships.

Date: Wednesday, 21 July 2010             Time: 9.30am - 4.30pm           Cost Band: B

Understanding & Negotiating Contracts

Details: During this session you will learn about what to look for before you sign on the dotted line. The difference between grant and contract delivery will be explained and you will gain a good understanding about when and how to negotiate contract terms.

Date: Thursday, 23 September 2010       Time: 9.30am - 1.00pm          Cost Band: B

Risk Management and Planning

Details: This course will explore with participants why does the organisation want/need to take on the contract, what are the considerations at the tendering point, the processes involved in determining risk. It will also look at how this applies to managing a contract and what needs to be in place to manage successfully, and the impact of failing to deliver on the contract. The course will also cover contingency planning ie. what do you do if key staff leave. The course will provide those of you that are new to the tendering and procurement process with knowledge and confidence to go through the same or it will refresh your thinking and awareness of being contract ready.
